The Commonwealth’s graphic profile

The flag, the colours and the signs

How the Commonwealth looks, in the world and here: the flag and its emblem, the colours, the type and the icons, the backdrops for screens and posters, the state signs on the institutions and the banners on their facades. Everything on this page may be downloaded and used by any citizen.

The flag

The flag of the Commonwealth: a red field with a gold star above a crossed pickaxe and axe.

The flag of the Commonwealth is a red field with a gold emblem: a five-pointed star above a crossed pickaxe and axe, the tools of the miners and builders of a Minecraft commonwealth.

The red field
The working people, who made the Commonwealth and keep it: the colour every citizen’s work shares.
The star
The Commonwealth as one, and the goal the plan steers by. It stands above the tools because the work serves the common aim, not the other way round.
The pickaxe
The miners: everything won from the earth, the stone and the ore. It is the first tool in every citizen’s hand in the world.
The axe
The builders: the timber of every house, workshop and bridge the Commonwealth raises.
Crossed
The two kinds of work joined under one plan, neither above the other.
Gold
What the common work yields, held in the common stores and shared by all.

Red #B3261E (red dye), gold #E0B030 (yellow dye). The proportions are 3 : 2; the emblem is 62 % of the hoist high, centred on the flag.

The construction sheet: the flag on a grid of 30 by 20 units, the emblem on its own grid of 32 by 42 cells, its star and crossing on the vertical centre line.
The construction sheet. The flag also comes square (1 : 1, for avatars and icons) and hanging (1 : 2, the shape of a Minecraft banner).

In the game

Drawn twice from one construction: as a flat poster for the website and print, and in square pixels, as the game draws its tools, for everything in Minecraft. In Minecraft the flag, the banners and the state signs carry the pixel emblem:

The flag in its pixel rendering, as in the game: the star, the pickaxe and the axe in square pixels.

Colours

Red, black, cream and gold, with steel for machinery. Each colour has its nearest dye in Minecraft and the blocks that build it.

Type

One family, Archivo, whose width carries the voice: expanded heavy capitals for names and titles, condensed figures for tallies.

Icons

Solid shapes on a grid of 24 by 24, in the manner of the posters; they take the colour of the text around them.

For the signs only (not yet used elsewhere on the website):

State signs

An enamel plaque for each institution, authority and service building, hung by the door as a painting in the world. The texture is 64 pixels a block; the size in blocks is under each sign.

Banners

Hanging banners on the facades, one colour family per kind of institution. Each is a Minecraft banner: a base colour, a vanilla pattern and one pattern of the Commonwealth’s own, the emblem.
